Arnold Mills United
Methodist
Church

Arnold Mills United Methodist Church began somewhere in the late 1700's. There is evidence that a Methodist circuit rider, the Rev. Jesse Lee, passed through Cumberland and preached at a local farm house. Several conversions resulted from his preaching, and a "methodist society"grew up, and began meeting in homes. At some point in the early 1800's, a Sunday School was formed, also meeting in homes at the beginning. As best as we can determine, an official pastor was assigned and the current building was occupied in 1827. The original building was added to in 1956, when the "educational wing"was added on the west side, with classrooms on the lower level and a fellowship hall on the ground level. In 1995, an addition was made to the east side of the building, providing an elevator and accessible restrooms.

The Arnold Mills Methodist Church was dedicated on Feb 17, 1827. A one story structure, with a high boxed pulpit and galleries, it was remodeled in 1845 and the two story structute we wdorship in now was the result. On June 30, 1957, as a result of the community, the auditorium and classroom wing was completed to help keep the church the focal point for worship and christian fellowship in the furture as it has been for over 100 years.
